England Coach Tim Southee Unsure on Ashes Participation
Tim Southee's last Test match for New Zealand was versus the English side in December 2024.
England's fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is still working through what his involvement will be during the upcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.
The former New Zealand pace bowler is expected to be present for the first Test due to his participation in the ILT20 competition, which begins on 2 December in the UAE.
Southee, 36, assumed a position as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the summer after taking 391 scalps in 107 Tests for New Zealand.
Commenting as the English squad for the first of three T20 matches against the Kiwis was announced, Southee said of his availability: "We're still working through that at the present time.
"We will determine the outcome over the next little while."
English pace icon Broad had stated the Australian team as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in no uncertainty over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which begins on 21 November.
"I don't think there's ever a bad Australian cricket team," he said.
"The team's attention is firmly on what we're trying to do. I think the caliber of [England's] team that's going out to the host country is excellent.
"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not just [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."
However, prior to the English team head to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they face the Kiwis in Christchurch on this Saturday.
