Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative commented the incident left him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
